PRF is one of our favorite restorative anti-aging treatments at Amelie. This all natural treatment helps restore your undereyes and can improve skin quality and color. It also can be used for hair restoration to promote new hair growth.

What is PRF

PRF is one of our favorite skin treatments for reversing the signs of aging. This treatment is 100% natural, free of chemicals, and packed full of cells that enhance skin texture, firmness and can even help with hair growth. PRF stands for platelet-rich fibrin. Your provider will draw your blood and then place the vial of blood in a centrifuge, spinning it at a low speed. Your platelet- rich fibrin is then collected, which can be injected into many areas of the face and body. Fibrin is a substance in our blood that helps your blood to clot during
bleeding and helps with wound healing and collagen stimulation. This platelet rich fibrin matrix is composed of growth factors and cells that encourage our body to regenerate and heal. The growth factors are released from the platelets for 7-10 days, which is great because your body is able to benefit from this extended healing.

How is PRF different from PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) are both regenerative therapies used in medical spa treatments, particularly in skin rejuvenation and hair restoration. While they share some similarities, they differ in their extraction process, components, and effectiveness. Here’s an overview of the differences between PRP and PRF:

Extraction Process:

● PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma): PRP is typically prepared by drawing a small amount of the patient’s blood, which is then processed in a
centrifuge to separate its components. The centrifugation process separates the blood into plasma, red blood cells, and platelet-rich
plasma. The resulting PRP is a liquid with a yellowish tint.
● PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin): PRF, on the other hand, involves a simpler and less aggressive centrifugation process. After drawing the patient’s blood, it is spun in a centrifuge without anticoagulants. This slower process allows for the formation of a fibrin clot. PRF is
more viscous and gel-like compared to the liquid consistency of PRP.

Components:

● PRP: PRP contains a higher concentration of platelets, growth factors, and other bioactive proteins compared to whole blood.
However, it still contains some red and white blood cells. The liquid consistency makes it easier to inject or apply topically.
● PRF: PRF has a higher concentration of platelets and growth factors than PRP. It also has a greater concentration of leukocytes (white
blood cells) and forms a three-dimensional fibrin matrix, which helps to retain the growth factors at the treatment site. The fibrin matrix in PRF promotes a slow, sustained release of growth factors.

Effectiveness:

● PRP: PRP treatments have been used successfully for various aesthetic and medical purposes, including skin rejuvenation, hair
restoration, and joint pain. However, the effectiveness can vary depending on the specific protocol used, the patient’s condition, and
the quality of the PRP.
● PRF: PRF is gaining popularity due to its unique properties. The fibrin matrix in PRF supports a more sustained release of growth
factors and a longer-lasting effect. This can lead to better tissue regeneration, making it particularly effective for skin rejuvenation.
PRF is also less likely to cause inflammation or adverse reactions, as it lacks anticoagulants and has a reduced concentration of white
blood cells.

Benefits of PRF

Let’s start off by talking about collagen. Collagen production is by far the biggest benefit of a PRF treatment, Collagen is a protein in our body that keeps our skin from drying out and looking aged. As we age, our collagen production naturally decreases and we slowly lose the collagen already produced. The concentrated growth factors is PRF stimulate new collagen production, which is turn helps with
skin texture, firmness and discoloration.

A second benefit of PRF that is worth talking about, is safety. Since PRF is obtained from your own blood, your body does not recognize it as foreign and there are little to no side effects. PRF is a very safe treatment with the biggest risk being getting a small bruise from your blood draw. A third benefit is long lasting results. PRF rejuvenates your skin and scalp naturally, and results are very long lasting. After a series of PRF treatments, you will notice that you look more vibrant for up to a year.

Why is PRF preferred over PRP?

● Longer-Lasting Results: PRF tends to provide more sustained and longer-lasting results compared to PRP due to the slow release of growth factors.
● Reduced Inflammation: PRF is less likely to cause inflammation or adverse reactions, making it a safer option for sensitive areas like the face.
● Natural-Looking Rejuvenation: The slower release of growth factors in PRF can lead to a more natural-looking rejuvenation, reducing the risk of overstimulating collagen production.
● Simpler Preparation: PRF’s preparation process is less complicated and doesn’t require anticoagulants, making it more straightforward.

Where can we use PRF

At Amelie, our favorite places to use PRF are under your eyes and for hair growth.

PRF Hair Restoration

Thinning hair can be caused by many different reasons such as metabolic issues, aging, vitamin deficiencies and medications. PRF in your scalp slows down hair loss and stimulates growth. It can also improve your hairs texture and vitality. We make sure your experience is comfortable and have many tools to help, such as topical numbing, cold ice spray and nerve blocks. We recommend a series of 5 treatments and then maintenance appointments as needed every year.

PRF Facial Under Eyes

PRF is our favorite treatment for under-eye concerns. PRF helps reduce dark pigmentation, improve texture and lines, and restore volume. The skin under the eyes is one of the thinnest skin areas on our body. It also shows aging early on. Fillers were traditionally used to help in this area, but they do have some drawbacks. They can make the under-eyes look puffy, and they don’t help with
the fine lines or crepey skin. PRF can significantly improve the appearance of our tear troughs and has become our first step to under-eye rejuvenation. We recommend 3 initial rounds and then a maintenance treatment every 6-12 months.

In summary, PRP and PRF are both valuable treatments for facial rejuvenation. At Amelie, we offer PRF for skin rejuvenation due to its unique properties, including longer-lasting results, reduced risk of inflammation, and a more natural look. Make a complimentary consultation today to meet with one of our experienced providers to discuss if PRF might be right for you!
